Actually a lamp is NOT what we commonly refer to as the "lamp". Technically a lamp is what we call the "light bulb"! Lamp actually is the term for an artificial light source  and the bulb is the container for the internal workings of the lamp such as the filament. Crazy as it may seem, that's the way it is. A lighting fixture, or luminaire,  is what we think of as the lamp. But no matter what we call them - they are wondrous! Think about it - they provide the illumination for our tasks, provide the atmosphere in our rooms with their special placement, and add a decorative element by their design.

Some of the most beautiful and creative luminaires are those designed and made by Eileen Gleason of New Orleans. At first glance they appear to be pieces of sculpture rather than lighting elements in a design. They lend an air of sophistication to any setting while providing a touch of whimsy and individuality.

Here is one of my very favorite of Eileen's works. It is titled "Waterlily" and has a very special quality that allows it to move from the most formal of settings to the casual desktop or side table. For more information about Eileen and her work, please email us and we will be most happy to email pictures of the other pieces that we have in the shop for purchase.
